It's going to be the anniversary of the
youngest Divas Champion of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Paige's
retirement in a few days, and a feature film produced by American actor,
producer, and semi-retired professional wrestler Dwayne "Rock"
Johnson and English actor, comedian, director, radio presenter and writer
Stephen Merchant, "Fighting with My Family" was released on Feb 22,
2019.
Based on the 2012 documentary "The
Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family", which depicts the WWE career of
former professional wrestler Paige, "Fighting with My Family" is a
dramatic, biographical comedy that tells the story of a former wrestler, Ricky
Knight, and his family make a living performing at the English promotion they
own, World Association of Wrestling, and small venues around the country while all
of his kids dream of joining WWE, and his only daughter Paige (Florence Pugh)
actually makes it.
There's no better combination to make a
film about wrestling than Dwayne Johnson and Stephen Merchant teaming up with
WWE Studios. With Johnson cameoing himself and Florence Pugh and Jack Lowden as
the leading actor and actress, there's a bunch of excitement for aficionados of
WWE, especially with the young actress' amazing acting talent and attractive
performance in the ring.
Not only a comedy, "Fighting with My
Family" boasts a clear core value, and points out that some people are
destined to be celebrated, but even if others don't, that doesn't mean they're
not important. Everyone has their own charisma, and that's the most precious
thing one can have in their lives.
Besides the awesome cast and inspirational
theme, "Fighting with My Family" is at breakneck pace with its
brilliant editing, and thus creates a tight, well-knitted storytelling rhythm
in the beginning, paving the way to the peak of the flick: the down time and
how Paige gets her fighting spirit and fights her way past the trial in front
of her.
As the title says, this is a motion
picture about Paige and her family; therefore, the "fight" within the
title could encapsulate argument, emotions and the physical fight in
"Fighting with My Family". It's not only an upbeat movie full of
cheers and laughs, but also one that contains heartfelt moments.
Also, "Fighting with My Family"
tries to stick to the fact as most as it can. It features Paige's debut match
with AJ Lee, at which she got her Divas Championship title, but instead of
presenting it as an impromptu match as the reality is, it's emphasized more to
pay tribute to Paige's glory.
All in all, "Fighting with My Family" is a decent picture for people who love WWE, who consider themselves as outsiders and who have a dream to fulfill.
