Bourne Is Back! Not as Charming

After being mocked as “the most expensive man to be saved in the US” lead acting “The Martian”, Matt Damon’s role in his latest feature film still costs the US government a bunch of money, but it is his most well-known hero character who revealed the Operation Treadstone, “Jason Bourne”.

Although “The Bourne Legacy” was starred by Oscar nominated actor Jeremy Renner, he couldn’t stop the film to be depicted as disappointing. Legacy or not, it all has to do with Bourne himself, that is to say, Damon.

Hearing fans’ calling, Bourne is back, nine years later. This CIA’s most dangerous former agent is drawn out of hiding by an old friend to reveal more explosive truths about his and other agents’ past.

It sounds like an exciting plot, but “Jason Bourne” ends up being a cliché sequel which only tells you that there’ll be more flicks coming along. Besides introducing the new character played by Alicia Vikander and the secret of Bourne’s past he uncovers, there’s no story development.

Even though “Jason Bourne” lacks the mystery and spy vibe its franchise used to give us, those who love it merely as an action thriller won’t be disappointed. Crossing country boarders as usual, there are more car chasing scenes in the latest motion picture, and new transportation form shows up as well.

Not many trilogy received overall success besides “Jason Bourne” and “The Lord of the Rings”, so of course director Paul Greengrass and Damon wouldn’t want to make a mediocre sequel to ruin the series which brought them fame. As they said, they released “Jason Bourne” because they were ready, but the result wasn’t satisfying.

As mentioned before, the action scenes in “Jason Bourne” are more than the previous three movies which can be an advantage to fans while the camera movements are shaky. This is one of the most famous characteristics of Greengrass’ works, but with more action scenes in this installment, the dizziness audiences get during the showing is more severe.

Ending the franchise with “Bourne Ultimatum” was a tremendous success, and the following similar pictures such as Jack Reacher and Jack Ryan aren’t as good. That’s the reason why we now say if James Bond represents UK agent, Bourne establishes the model of US spy.

Many were looking forward to the comeback of Bourne, and here he is, back in town, not as charming, but let’s not be too harsh, both Bourne and Damon are older now. As long as we can still see them on the big screen, the memory of Operation Treadstone will always be there waiting for us to join Bourne’s adventure.
