When it comes to “Batman,” people always think of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. Therefore, it takes a great deal of bravery to make a reboot. Even if Nolan’s legacy remains hard to beat and still can’t be shaken off, director Matt Reeves managed to bring out a Batman feature film with a completely different ambience, which can be said as the second best live-action Batman film behind Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.” The Cape Crusader of a new generation is a dark, disaffected and frustrated youth, but he’s ready to walk out of his mansion to meet up with the audience on Mar 4, 2022.
Based on one of DC comic’s most popular characters of the same name, this dramatic, crime action tells the story when one of the Batman (Robert Pattinson)’s biggest foes, the Riddler (Paul Dano), a cruel serial killer, begins murdering big political figures in Gotham, the Dark Knight is forced to investigate the city's hidden corruption and question his father’s legacy.
As usual, “The Batman” is A-listed. One of the most critical allies of Batman, Alfred, is played by English actor, director and producer Andy Serkis. Although he’s best known for his performance capture roles in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” franchise and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, when he appears as Alfred on the big screen, moviegoers just can’t resist his charisma.
Even though the Gotham Knight’s archenemy is the Joker, and actors who portrayed the character well received huge fame such as the legendary Heath Ledger, Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix, the Riddler’s still a historic foe of Batman. Starred by the talented actor Paul Dano, the Riddler doesn’t have much screen time with his face shown, but just two last scenes in the “The Batman” display how extensive Dano’s performance can be.
Not to mention the protagonist Robert Pattinson, who’s celebrated for playing in “Good Time” and his character as Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” saga. With his mask on most of the time, Pattinson exposes his sexy chin in “The Batman,” and even the famous crooked smile in “Twilight” can be seen once or twice in the flick.
As a reboot, “The Batman” does an amazing job helping beginners learn about the World’s Greatest Detective with most of his allies and foes in it, including Alfred, the well-liked Catwoman and the police commissioner James Gordon, the Penguin and the Riddler.
Unlike previous works that presented Batman as a superhero in default, “The Batman” shows how he decides to change his position from a vengeance to a hero and discusses the definition of heroism. Moreover, as the theme of the motion picture, the real meaning of justice is what the audience will ponder on after watching, so there’s no doubt that it’s the second best Batman movie only behind “The Dark Knight.”
