It has been five years since Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures launched their critically acclaimed computer-animated superhero feature film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which was released on Jun 2, 2023, is not only even better than its prequel, but also one of the best films of all time.

After what happened in the previous episode, Miles Morales flies across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.

Since the Spider-Verse franchise is computer-animated, the medium of the animation and design could vary drastically. The different universes visited in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse were designed to look like they were drawn by other animators. There are 2D animation, 3D animation, design inspired by collage imagery, comic book style, hand drawing and watercolor, etc. The audiences not only get to experience the beauty and power of animation, but also would be able to distinguish which universe is which.

All spidey flicks deal with terrible identifying problems, talking about the sense of belonging. In most universes, the protagonist is Peter Parker, an anti-social high-school nerd without too many friends at school. The protagonist of the Spider-Verse series is Miles Morales, who has a biracial background from his African-American father and Puerto Rican mother. As the second Spider-Man in Ultimate Marvel, Miles’ story demonstrates the identifying problems a cross-culture resident faces nowadays, not to mention in more than one universe.

Also, family is an essential theme in The Wall Crawler’s motion pictures. What’s different is that not only Miles’ family’s brought up for discussion, but also other main characters’ family issues, which add some new spikes to the story.

Just as one of the characters says, Spider-People are supposed to be funny. There are a bunch of punchlines in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Discussions and sarcasm regarding the concept and definition of art and several popular memes are included in the movie.

Since the story arc of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is different from most Spider-Man pictures, the audience would find everything fresh and new, but in order to bring as many Web Heads from different universes as possible into it, the standard story arc is discussed in the feature film, and there are some Easter Eggs to give moviegoers some surprises. Without a doubt, this is not only the best spider-man related film, but also one of the best flicks of all time.
