When it comes to Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, all those pink bubbles might fill the audience’s mind. However, their latest collaboration has nothing to do with romance, but rather the brutal reality of what love can lead us to. Die My Love was released in the US on November 9, 2025.

Based on the 2012 novel Die, My Love by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, this psychological, dramatic thriller and dark comedy, which isn’t comedic at all, tells the story of Grace (Jennifer Lawrence), a writer and young mother who is slowly slipping into madness. Locked away in an old house in rural Montana, she grows increasingly agitated and erratic, leaving her companion, Jackson (Robert Pattinson), worried and helpless.

If Die My Love were a story without love, it would be easy for moviegoers to hate its characters. However, certain details remind the audience that Grace and Jackson still love each other, it’s just an inevitable phase of a relationship. When the considerate gestures that once felt sweet stop being cute, every element of the relationship can become hazardous to the couple’s mental health.

Since Lynne Ramsay is known for her recurring themes of death, grief, guilt, and their aftermath, Die My Love is filled with metaphoric imagery, but the director doesn’t spend time explaining what any of it means. Whether it’s the fire shown on the poster, the flames at the beginning and end of the feature film, the recurring horses, or the mysterious motorcyclist, Ramsay simply presents them and leaves moviegoers to interpret them on their own.

What we can be sure of is that Die My Love deals with postpartum depression, as the story begins around the time Grace and Jackson are expecting their first child. Although both of them already show signs of instability, things spiral out of control after the baby’s birth. In reality, postpartum depression doesn’t affect only mothers, sometimes, couples experience it together. There are many triggers for this condition, and this film seems to include them all, creating an unbearable scenario for audiences to witness.

Beyond Lawrence’s impeccable performance, the most convincing aspect of Die My Love is its immersive nature. Viewers don’t simply watch Grace cope with her depression and gradually lose control; they descend into madness alongside her. As the baby keeps crying, the dog won’t stop barking and whining, and the spouse criticizes everything in sight, no one in the audience can escape the suffocating atmosphere. This unbearable discomfort is likely exactly what Ramsay intended.

Even though Die My Love may not be an extraordinary flick, it honestly portrays the dark side of love, and that alone makes it worth watching.
